Cognitive radio intelligently adapts particular transmission or reception parameter by sensing the environment. It has received great attention recently for its ability to improve spectrum efficiency by enabling secondary users to access spectrum resource, when it is being unoccupied by primary users. In a multiuser cognitive radio system, the coverage region of a secondary system is divided into overlay and hybrid region. The localization of primary system and optimization of resource allocation of secondary system in a multiuser cognitive system is a challenging task. In this paper, we first estimate the location of primary system with respect to the secondary system using the conventional method and then formulated a resource allocation framework to optimize the overall resource consumption by enhancing the quality of services of a primary system. Simulation results shows that the need for location information as a part of resource allocation and evaluated the proposed method in terms of energy efficiency of the system.
