Overall performance of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) degrades due to the presence of faulty sensor node. Therefore, detection of faulty sensor node plays a vital role in WSNs. The conventional fault detection methods using mean and statistical z-score, where the faulty node is detected by measuring the outlyingness of the sensor data with respect to measured mean is not providing better performance in high noise environment. To overcome this problem, in this paper we have proposed median and mode based centralized robust fault detection algorithm to identify soft faulty sensor node present in the network. The simulation results show that the detection accuracy, false alarm rate and false positive rate performance is much better compared to the conventional algorithm.
