According to the report of WHO, diabetes is the
most threatening disease in the world and globally estimated
422 millions adults were living with diabetes in 2014. People
with prolonged diabetes leads to eye disease called as DR. It
is a leading cause of blindness in working-age people. 4.8%
of 37 million cases of blindness in the world are due to DR.
The primary objectives of this paper are study statistics about
people with diabetes and it’s effect on vision of the human being
followed by economic burden. The anatomy of human eye and
the retina's anatomical regions have been studied in detail. Also in
this paper the publicly available retinal image databases features
are analy'zed using matlab imtool command.
The comparative study of state of art various DR screening
tools and retina’s anatomical regions extraction methods have
been presented. And it is observed that the NICE recommends
DR screening modalities should have sensitivity of at least 80%,
a specificity of at least 95% and a technical failure rate of no
greater than 5%.
