SF6 is a potent greenhouse gas and one of the promising alternatives is CO2. So this paper took CO2 rotating arc chamber as research object. The influence of the breaking angle and the magnetic field on the chamber was analyzed theoretically. Ansoft Maxwell software was used to simulate the magnetic field distribution in order to analyze the influence of the factors. Those factors are the number of turns of the excitation coil, the thickness of the disc and the distance between the contact terminals etc. When the number of turns increases, the magnetic field inside the arc chamber is enhanced that will improve the breaking performance. The eddy current will increase as the thickness of disc increases which will result in the increase of B-I phase difference and it is easier to quench the arc. Finally, the insulation test and the current breaking test were carried out on rotating arc chamber where CO2 was used to substitute SF6 as the arc-quenching medium. Respectively, this paper designed 18 turns, 36 turns and 54 turns of the excitation coil for comparison test which would indicate that the increases of the number of excitation coil turns could improve the breaking capacity
