The active current injection circuit breaker (ACICB) based on mechanical switch and paralleled paths has been widely applied in the fault clearance of DC system. The current commutation between paths plays a vital role in determining the success or failure of interruption. However, the conventional means bring about numerous drawbacks. We propose to solve the problems with an innovative magnetic induction current commutation module (MICCM). The MICCM winding has a flat spiral coil structure, in which the influence of structural parameters including the inner and outer diameter, the distance between windings parameters on circuit characteristics is investigated by simulations. With MICCM applied to an active current injection circuit breaker (ACICB), the current commutation characteristic has been analyzed accordingly and verified by experimental test. Finally, the fault current breaking experiment for 10 kV prototype has been conducted, which validates the feasibility and effectiveness of MICCM.
