In order to apply resistive type superconducting fault current limiters (SFCL) in power systems, it is meaningful to obtain the recovery time of superconducting coils in SFCLs. The objective of this paper is to propose a recovery time measurement method for superconducting coils with DC. The experiment circuit in this measurement method mainly includes a L-C discharging current source and a DC circuit breaker. The L-C current source is used to produce a high DC current which quenches the superconducting coil. Then the DC circuit breaker cuts off the DC current, the superconducting coil starts to recover its superconductivity. The voltage and current of the superconducting coil are measured before and after the recovery process, and the recovery time is calculated according to the curves.
