Analysis of clinical effect on reconstruction of closing Achilles tendon rupture with Ligament Advanced Reinforcement System (LARS) artificial ligaments

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect on reconstruction of acute achilles tendon ruptures with ligament advanced reinforcement system(LARS) artificial ligaments.

Methods 8 patients with fresh rupture of the Achilles tendon received treatment in our hospital.The artificial tendon was inserted into the tunnels of LARS artificial ligaments and interlacing suture.After operation the rehabilitation procedure was taken step by step without external fixation.The treatment out-come were evaluated by Amer-Lindllolm evaluation system.

Results All cases were followed up for 12-24 months,the treatment out-come were excellent in 6 cases,good in 1,and poor in 1,the excellent and good rate of the surgery accounted for 87.5%.One patient has muscle strength decrease of musculus gastrocnemius.No complication such as deep or superficial wound infection,delayed union,osteolysis and ligament rerupture occurred after operation.

Conclusion Repairing acute achilles tendon ruptures with LARS is a kind of safe and effective method,the early rehabilitation program provide satisfactory result with low complication rates.
