Friction stir processing is a new modification method for large plastic deformation of materials. In this paper, the effects of friction stir on the macroscopic morphology, micromorphology, hardness and tensile strength of 6061 aluminum alloy were studied. The results show that, after friction stir processing, there are obvious hole defects in the bottom of stirring zone of the solid solution 6061 aluminum alloy; while the microstructure in stirring zone of aging 6061 aluminum alloy is complete, and the hardness of the section is both W-shaped after processing. In addition, the hardness, elongation and tensile strength of stirring zone in aging 6061 aluminum alloy by friction stir processing are 74HV, 346MPa and 24.7% respectively. Then heat preservation at 180℃ for 6 hours, the hardness, elongation and tensile strength of stirring zone are 107HV, 397MPa and 13.2% respectively. The results can provide theoretical basis and technological support for friction stir processing of aluminum alloy.
