Introduction

We are pleased to announce that the Fifth Annual International Symposium on Quantitative History will take place at Henan University in Kaifeng, Henan Province, China, July 16 - 17, 2017. The symposium is hosted by Henan University in collaboration with University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University and Peking University, and contracted to the School of Economics of Henan University. The theme for this year's Symposium is "Civilization: a Millennial Perspective". 

We now invite submissions of research papers on all relevant historical topics using quantitative approaches including but not limited to economic and social history, political history, cultural history, business and financial history and archival history. Submitted papers can be either in English or Chinese. Submissions must be unpublished and original. We encourage submissions from young scholars including participants of previous quantitative history summer schools. Discussants will be assigned for each accepted submission.

The two-day Symposium consists of plenary sessions by invited speakers, parallel sessions of accepted papers in English or Chinese. Financial support available to presenting authors who are in need to cover their travel and accommodation expenses.
