Introduction

Nano-microscale thermal radiation has received significant attention due to its potential application to energy harvesting, nanomanufacturing, heat flow regulation, thermal imaging and local heating below the diffraction limit. Radiative heat transfer can be greatly enhanced beyond the blackbody limit at nanosize separation distances. In addition, the performance of various devices can substantially benefit from the modification of reflection, transmission, absorption and emission spectra using micro/nanostructures.

Following the success of the First International Workshop held in May 2012 in Matsushima, Japan, and the Second International Workshop held in June 2014 in Shanghai, China, the Third International Workshop on Nano-Micro Thermal Radiation (NanoRad2017) will be held on June 26-28, 2017 at KAIST in Daejeon, South Korea. The main objective of this Workshop is to bring together experts, researchers, and students from around the world for open exchange of research ideas, recent findings and discoveries, and future outlooks in Nano-Microscale Thermal Radiation. This event will provide a forum to facilitate international collaborations and promote joint efforts in this multidisciplinary area. A pre-workshop short course on Nano-Microscale Thermal Radiation will be offered for young scholars/students in order to convey the fundamentals, applications and trends in this field.
