Special Session on Control and Filtering of Distributed Networked Systems

Networking technologies have been widely used for data communication and informationexchange due to a low-cost solution for distributed information processing and controlling, which generates new configurations of industrial/control systems and leads to the emergence of distributed networked systems. Such systems have found applications in a broad range of areas, such as mobile sensor networks, remote surgery, haptics collaboration over the Internet, multi-area power systems, telerobotics, unmanned aerial vehiclesand automated highway systems. However, the implementation and design of distributed networked systems pose several challenges related to effective data sensing and fusion, intermittent and event-driven data communicationand broadcasting, reliable and secure information processing and controlling due to network resource constraints and/or potential cyber/physical attacks.

Thus, it is becoming indispensable to understand how to reliably and safely apply networking technologies to modern industrial/control systems with a large number of distributed sensors, controllers and actuators, which renders several fundamental problems regarding real-time control and filtering significant. This Special Session aims to provide a research venue for exchanging and discussingthe technical trends and challenges of control and filtering for distributed networked systems. Both theory-and application-driven studies are invited for participation.
