Introduction

Due to the issues of energy crisis and environmental pollution, renewable energy sources (RES) which represented by the solar,wind and fuel cell are getting moreand more attention. Because of the low and unregulated output voltage of RES,power converters are always added.In recent years, significant improvements of topology, power density and energy conversionefficiency of RESsystems have been reported.However, the reliability of the RES system remainsstill a major challenge. The power converter and its control strategy play a significant role for RESsystem reliability.Awell-designed power converter controlalgorithm could prevent further RESdegradation under abnormal operation conditions.The objective of thisSpecial Sessionis to present the latest progresses and developments in RESpower electronics designand control methods to improve the lifespan and the robustness of RESpower generation systems.
