Research in Virtual Reality (VR) is concerned with computing technologies that allow humans to see, hear, talk, think, learn, and solve problems in virtual and augmented environments. On the other hand, research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) addresses technologies that allow computing machines to mimic these same human abilities. While the two fields have evolved separately, their overlapping interests in human senses and knowledge production represent a future where humans and humans, machines and machines, and humans and machines can interact in augmented virtual worlds around a variety of interesting activities.

The First IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality (AIVR 2018) is an international forum for researchers to exchange information regarding advances in the state of the theory and practice of artificial intelligence and virtual reality, as well as to identify emerging research topics and define the future of AI and VR.
