Linking Syntactic Complexity to Writing Rating Scales of Different English Tests

Abstract: China’s Standards of English Language Ability Scale (CSE) was published for guiding the assessment of English teaching and learning. The writing rating scale in CSE has specified writing ability in each hierarchy level. Therefore, score users might benefit from understanding different test scores when writing scales of different language test have been related to the CSE. This study attempts to explore the relationship of syntactic complexity to writing ratings of different tests, and link ability requirement of different tests to the CSE.
中国英语能力等级量表为不同的英语考试提供了统一的衡量标准，基于这一标准，不同英语考试的作文测评可以进行衡量和比较。本研究旨在探究写作句法复杂度与英语四六级、英语专四专八考试中的评分量表之间的联系，并根据中国英语能力等级量表来探讨不同考试对写作句法复杂度的能力要求。
