An Experimental Study on Length Approach in EFL Writing

Problem
For many years,English writing has been neglected in China.The consequence is that teachers who teach writing class lack of formal training,and students don’t take it seriously,having no interest in it.

Approach
The research subject are two groups of sophomores in high school (later dividing into control group and experimental group)from Humen high school,Dongguan city.At first,their writing test scores are collected.In the meanwhile,they are asked to fill out questionnaire.Then using traditional method to teach control group writing while experimental group is taught by length approach.At the end of the term,students’ final writing scores are collected and they are asked to finish questionnaire again.

Results
The final writing scores of experimental group are higher than that of control group.More than that,students from experimental group show strong motivation and interests towards EFL writing.

Conclusion
The research result shows that length approach is indeed an effective and practical way of EFL writing.It can greatly improve students’ comprehensive English skills as well as English writing ability,tapping their potentials in composition and facilitating their interests and confidence for English learning.
