This paper discusses the development of the university selective course “Critical Thinking and English Learning Strategies ” by analyzing students’ critical thinking disposition and ability in the process of teaching and learning. The course itself is aimed at providing critical thinking skills for the students and making changes in English learning habits and thoughts, so that students are able to learn English in a more effective and efficient way. The paper also mainly examines the accomplishment of the class tasks, including CCTDI (California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory) self-evaluation, brain storm, audio-visual task, disciplinary report task. Students’ issues of comfortable zones and critical thinking ability are also examined.
