The Acquisition of English Negation by Chinese Pre-school EFL Children: A Comparison between Immersion and Conventional ELT

In this article, the comparison between immersion education and conventional ELT classroom for the English negation development of Chinese ESL pre-school children will be discussed. The article will mainly show the previous study of child negation development of both English native children and ESL children in natural setting and in an immersion classroom. Whether the immersion education can assist teacher to better develop pre-school children’s negation of second language in China will also be discussed. The beginning of the article will demonstrate the research background and the reason why we need a research about how Chinese pre-school children develop their English negation in comparing immersion education and conventional ELT classroom. How negation development in English native children and ESL children including the theoretical bases and application foundations will be the most important part of this article. An anticipatory and comparative research plan will be administrated to show the possibility of comparing immersion education and conventional ELT by conducting periodical tests. The results of the testing will be processed by SPSS 22.0 to calculate whether there are significant differences between two ELTs. Also, the utterance of every child will be recorded as qualitative data for further analysis including the sequence of negation and the expression of negative sentences. Finally, the outcomes and values of this survey will be shown with a conclusion of the paper.
