Introduction

Enterprise architecture and engineering are receiving renewed interest because the operating environment of most organizations or enterprises today is increasingly complex and changing rapidly. Enterprise architecture and engineering are key approaches to assist businesses to transform themselves to meet changing business challenges. Leading technology discussions today often refer to the emerging and disruptive technology trends that would dramatically alter our socio-technical and socio-economic landscape in the near future. Enterprise architecture and engineering technologies and related techniques and methodologies are becoming increasingly important for harnessing potential benefits provided by the fast changing operating environment, and for positioning the enterprise to thrive in disruptive environments. A core component of any enterprise approach are the models and frameworks that need to be developed in order to understand, organize, simulate, design, communicate, implement and integrate all aspects of the enterprise that are embodied in its elements (people, processes, applications, etc.). Furthermore, the relationships of these aspects to each other, as well as to the business environment, need to be understood and properly represented. Besides the frameworks and models themselves, their management and evolution along their life cycle needs to be systematically addressed to ensure that they stay aligned with the goals and needs of an organization within its environment.

The 2nd International Workshop on Advanced Enterprise Modelling and Management (AEM 2018) aims to build on AEM 2017 and provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to share research and experiences and discuss emerging developments in the area of advanced enterprise modelling and management. The Workshop Chairs therefore invite authors to submit original research, research in progress and industry examples or practices on topics of interest in advanced enterprise modelling and management that include, but are not limited to:

Modelling approaches/methods:

  • Enterprise architecture, digitization and disruption
  • Advanced modelling within enterprise architecture and engineering
  • Specific modelling requirements of digitalization and digital enterprises
  • Agile methods for enterprise modelling and enterprise architecture
  • Ontologies and enterprise modelling / enterprise ontologies
  • Conceptual modelling
  • Domain-specific modelling languages
  • Enterprise models with formal semantics
  • Rule systems in enterprise modelling
  • Meta-modelling for enterprises and enterprise information systems
  • Enterprise systems engineering
  • Interoperability of (models for) enterprise information systems.

Modelling and models for specific domains/fields of study:

  • Conceptual modelling for enterprises and enterprise architecture
  • Domain/service/business modelling
  • Business process modelling
  • Conceptual models for specific domains
  • Frameworks and models related to socio-technical or human factors in enterprise architecture and engineering
  • Modelling knowledge work
  • Decision modelling and decision management
  • Business capability modelling
  • Enterprise modelling for business-IT alignment
  • Enterprise interoperability
  • Interoperability in enterprise information systems
  • Modelling organisational change.
