Electrochemical energy conversion and storage technologies are promising routes for transitioning our society from its reliance on fossil fuels towards a more sustainable power supply. At the heart of this transition are disruptive materials solutions, coupled with an enhanced fundamental understanding of the underlying electrochemistry. This Nature Conference aims to explore current research progress towards these goals and promote discussions of the challenges facing advanced rechargeable batteries, fuel cells and electrocatalysis systems. A strong focus for the conference will be the relationship between fundamental electrochemistry and materials science for energy applications, as well as the fostering of partnerships between industry and academia.
