Magnetic Properties of Transition Metal Doped 3C-SiC Nanowires Based on First Principles Calculation

The formation energy, electronic structure and magnetic properties of transition metal (TM) doped 3C-SiC nanowires were investigated by the first principles calculation. The results show that the V-doped nanowire is the most stable, the Fe-doped nanowires are non-magnetic, while the V, Cr, Mn doped nanowires are ferromagnetic. Magnetic properties originates from hybridization of TM-3d, C-2p and Si-3p states, and the magnetic moment is local. The ferromagnetism of V, Cr, Mn doped nanowires is stable.
