In China,The Outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035 was published on March 13, 2021, and methane control was included in the goal of the Five-Year Plan for the first time, providing powerful support and guarantee for the goals of “30•60” (carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutral by 2060). Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) also states clearly that deep emission reduction of non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gases such as methane is a necessary condition to achieve the goal of Paris Convention, namely, to control global temperature rise below 1.5℃ by the end of the present century.
At present, methane leakage during production and transportation of coal, natural gas, and oil, and methane emission of agricultural livestock breeding and rice planting activities occupy a large proportion. In addition, decomposition of organic matters in solid waste landfills and sewage disposal systems also produces a large amount of methane. If methane can be captured from the above-mentioned emission sources, it will be a forceful opportunity to slow down climate change, increase useable energy, promote economic growth, improve air quality, and facilitate energy fair transition.
This Summit will focus on control of methane emission in the coal industry, the oil and gas industry, agriculture, and the waste disposal industry; meanwhile it will also explore the main contents, namely drainage and utilization of coalbed methane, recycle of methane such as oil field gas, biomass power generation, wastewater treatment, landfill gas (LGF), reduction of methane emission and anaerobic digestion fermented in animal guts, methane emission detection method, and climate investment and financing, so as to help relevant enterprises and organizations achieve the carbon neutral goal!
