A key concern for offshore wind foundations (OWFs) is the development of scour around the foundation, particularly in terms of the maximum scour hole depth and extension and its temporal development. The aim of this study is to analyze the scour development around monopiles using REEF3D::CFD numerical model. In this research, the foundation is subjected exclusively to current loads to predict the maximum scour depth and its temporal evolution as well as the extension of the scour hole. Experimental data from a previous study was used to validate the numerical model. The numerical model showed a strong ability to capture the scour development around the monopile when compared to experimental results.
