Introduction

Geomicrobiology is an interdisciplinary field studying the interactions between geological environments and microorganisms, widely serving mineral exploration, petroleum & gas exploration, geochemistry, ecological environment, and agricultural safety. Since the establishment of the Professional Committee of Geomicrobiology of the Chinese Society for Microbiology in 2017, the field has grown rapidly in China, with expanding research teams, deepening interdisciplinary integration, and continuous emergence of outstanding achievements and talents.

The 'Academic Symposium on Geomicrobiology of the Chinese Society for Microbiology' serves as a platform to promote exchange of cutting-edge research outcomes, enhance academic interaction, and consolidate key scientific questions in geomicrobiology. The symposium aims to sustainably advance the discipline, develop geomicrobial resources, cultivate interdisciplinary talents, and strengthen China’s international influence in geomicrobiology. Its predecessor was the Sino-US Symposium on Geomicrobiology held at China University of Geosciences (Beijing) in 2008; after years of development, it has evolved into the most influential comprehensive conference in China bridging Earth sciences and microbiology.

The 13th Academic Symposium on Geomicrobiology of the Chinese Society for Microbiology, jointly organized by Southwest University of Science and Technology and the Professional Committee of Geomicrobiology of the Chinese Society for Microbiology, and hosted by the School of Environment and Resources, Southwest University of Science and Technology, will be held in Mianyang, Sichuan Province, from August 8–10, 2025. The Organizing Committee sincerely invites experts and scholars across China engaged in teaching, scientific research, and technological development in geomicrobiology to attend this symposium in Mianyang—the 'Science and Technology City' and hometown of the great poet Li Bai—to jointly advance the development and progress of geomicrobiology in China. Enterprises related to geomicrobiology are also warmly welcomed to participate and showcase their products and technologies.

Guidlines

Call for Abstracts, Posters, and Graduate Student Presentations:
1. Abstract Submission: This symposium will publish the 'Abstract Book of the 13th National Academic Symposium on Geomicrobiology'. Abstracts of unpublished papers are invited. Formatting requirements: title in bold SimSun size 3; authors and affiliations (including email address) in KaiTi size 5; main text in SimSun size 4, within 500 words. Authors assume full responsibility for content. Participants wishing to apply for oral presentations or poster presentations should indicate their preference when submitting abstracts.
2. Poster Submission: Posters may be in Chinese or English; however, English-language posters must include Chinese names and affiliations (bilingual or Chinese-only). Poster dimensions will be announced in the second notification. Certificates will be awarded to outstanding posters.
3. Graduate Student Presentations: A dedicated graduate student session is organized to provide more opportunities for graduate students to present research progress and engage in academic exchange. Each presentation is approximately 5 minutes. Certificates and awards will be granted to outstanding presentations.

All submissions—including abstracts, posters, and graduate presentations—must be made via the conference website. The submission deadline is July 31, 2025.
