Abstract
DC fuses are critical for protecting electric vehicles, data centers, and energy storage systems. Whether the fuse can withstand transient recovery voltage without dielectric breakdown after current zero determines interruption success, yet the post-arc recovery mechanism and its relationship with arcing characteristics remain unclear. This paper experimentally investigates a 200 V/30 A quartz sand-filled DC fuse. After current zero, a 1000 V pulsed DC voltage was applied using the Rabus method to measure post-arc dielectric recovery strength. Results show that average arc voltage is positively correlated with arcing energy: a 10 V increase raises arcing energy by approximately 0.139 J. Conversely, average arc voltage is negatively correlated with dielectric recovery strength at 10 ms, which decreases by about 21.7 V per 10 V increase. The average arc voltage reflects energy input during arcing, influencing fulgurite dimensions and initial post-arc temperature, thus determining recovery strength. This study quantifies the correlation between arcing and post-arc processes, providing experimental evidence for understanding post-arc mechanisms and optimizing DC fuse performance.
