Abstract
The time-current operating characteristics of fuses are crucial for coordinated protection between upstream and downstream circuits. The key factors influencing these characteristics are concentrated on the critical features of fuse components. However, these features exhibit random distributions due to manufacturing tolerances, causing random variations in fuse operating characteristics and ultimately leading to protection failure under specific fault currents. This paper investigates the transfer function between critical features and operating characteristics. By predicting the statistical distribution of operating characteristics from the known statistical distribution of critical features based on manufacturing capability, the upper and lower boundaries of operating characteristics under acceptable failure rates can be obtained. This enables clear protection boundaries for fuses in different branches and yields a robust coordination scheme.
