Influences of PA66 and PTFE Fillers on the Interruption Performance of DC Fuses under Overload Conditions

Abstract
DC fuses are widely used in various DC power transmission and distribution scenarios. They are filled with arc-extinguishing material, silica sand, which can quickly wrap and cool the arc, but they have the defect of long overload breaking time. The purpose of this study is to improve the overload breaking capacity of DC fuses and shorten the breaking time under small current conditions. Two organic materials, PA66 and PTFE, were selected and made into arc-extinguishing fillers at mass fractions of 5%, 10%, and 15%. Pure silica sand was used as the control group, and they were respectively filled into the device that can simulate DC fuses to conduct breaking tests under power supply voltages of 100, 150, and 200V. The results show that using 5% PA66 can shorten the breaking time of 100V power supply voltage and 2700A expected current to 17.5ms, which is 48.6% of the breaking time of pure silica sand. However, using PA66 is not conducive to the breaking of large currents. Therefore, it is comprehensively considered that the filling material of 5% PA66 has the best effect. This study is helpful to screen out the appropriate filling ratio of DC fuses and promote the improvement of overload breaking performance of DC fuses.
