Introduction

The Tibetan Plateau, hailed as the "Roof of the World" and Earth's "Third Pole", serves as a natural laboratory for geoscience research. From the evolution of the Tethys Ocean to the India-Eurasia continental collision, this region has undergone a series of geological events including continental rifting and amalgamation, ocean closure and transformation, subduction and collision, crustal accretion and orogeny, and plateau uplift and growth. It is not only a treasure trove of resources and energy but also a tectonically active and environmentally fragile zone, exerting profound influences on global climate patterns and biodiversity.

The Annual Academic Conference on Tibetan Plateau Earth Sciences was initiated in 2006 by China University of Geosciences (Beijing) in collaboration with relevant geoscience research institutions in Beijing. Its aim is to advance Earth science research on the Tibetan Plateau in China, showcase cutting-edge findings, and explore key scientific directions and priorities. After 18 years, the conference has achieved remarkable success and evolved into a vital platform for scholars to exchange latest research outcomes, tackle frontier scientific questions, and promote technological advancement — truly an eagerly anticipated annual academic feast for the Earth system science community.
