Cultural development is a critical pillar for promoting high-quality development and Chinese-style modernization. High-quality development is not limited to economic construction but also encompasses cultural development. The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasized leading with socialist core values, developing advanced socialist culture, carrying forward revolutionary culture, inheriting fine traditional Chinese culture, meeting the people's growing spiritual and cultural needs, consolidating the common ideological foundation for unity and struggle across the Party and the entire nation, and continuously enhancing the country’s cultural soft power and the influence of Chinese culture. On June 2, 2023, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out at the Symposium on Cultural Inheritance and Development: “To open up and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics on the profound foundation of over 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, it is essential to integrate the basic principles of Marxism with China’s specific realities and with its fine traditional culture.” At the National Conference on Ideological and Cultural Work held in October 2023, Xi Jinping Thought on Culture was formally proposed and systematically expounded, emphasizing “demonstrating new momentum and new achievements in building a powerful socialist cultural country and constructing modern Chinese civilization.” In April 2025, the journal Qiushi published General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important article “Accelerating the Construction of a Powerful Cultural Country,” calling for “continuing the Chinese cultural lineage through innovative transformation and creative development.” Continuing to promote cultural prosperity, building a powerful cultural country, and constructing modern Chinese civilization have become the new cultural mission at this new historical starting point. Firmly upholding cultural confidence, embracing openness and inclusiveness, adhering to correct principles while innovating, advancing the “two integrations,” continuing the Chinese cultural lineage, and promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of fine traditional Chinese culture provide a firm ideological guarantee, powerful spiritual strength, and favorable cultural conditions for comprehensively building a modern socialist country and fully realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation — a historic task for economists in the new era.
In this context, after deliberation by the Forum Council, the 11th Forum on Culture and Economics will be held on December 6, 2025, at the School of Economics and Business Administration, Beijing Normal University. The theme of this forum is: Fine Traditional Chinese Culture and High-Quality Development. We now invite academic papers from scholars worldwide.
