Introduction
The Geoinformatics conference series was initiated by CPGIS in 1992. This annual international conference has provided a unique forum for exchanging ideas and knowledge on geo-information sciences between GIS professionals worldwide. The 16th International Conference on Geoinformatics and the Joint conference on GIS and Built Environment between Sun Yat-sen University and the University of Cincinnati will be held during June 28-29, 2008 in Guangzhou, China. Guangzhou is the third largest urban center in China, and it is only about 70 minutes away by train from Hong Kong. This conference is scheduled one month prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The conference theme is “GIS, Built Environment, and Geo-simulation". This conference encourages diverse topics related to philosophy, technology and solution to enrich the future development of Geoinformatics. All accepted papers will be included in a disk. High quality papers selected through a peer review process will be published in SPIE proceedings, which have been indexed by the EI database. Furthermore, special issues of Computers, Environment and Urban Systems (SSCI indexed) and GeoJournal will be published after the conference.
