The European innovation performance, crucially, is dependent on strengthening investment and the use of new technologies, particularly ICT, by both the private and public sectors. Information and Communication technologies provide the backbone for the knowledge economy. They account for around half of the productivity growth in modern economies. e-Health applications include the use of mobile devices in collecting health data, delivery of healthcare information to practitioners, researchers, and patients, real-time monitoring of patient vital signs, and direct provision of care.
