Behavioral Operations Management (BOM), which studies the impact of human behaviors on complex operations systems, has witnessed a rapid growth in recent years. Much of the attention in the research area and its initial success can be attributed to the elegant integration between behavioral science and operations management through mathematical modeling and empirical study.Following successful offerings of the 2009, 2010, 2011“International Workshop on BOM” in Beijing and 2012 in Chengdu, Faculty of Management and Economics at Dalian University of Technology will host the fifth BOM workshop in Dalian, jointly with the Dept. of Industrial Engineering at Tsinghua University. The goal of the workshop is to bring together scholars, researchers, and graduate students from universities and research institutions in China to share their current work, identify new research problems, and enhance interdisciplinary collaborations among BOM researchers. The workshop will start with research presentations on recent key developments of BOM by renowned speakers from all over the world and will end with a round table discussion to identify potential future research directions of BOM. Faculty members, researchers, and graduate students with a common interest in the interface between human behavior studies, operations management, and analytical modeling are encouraged to enroll in the workshop. In addition to listening to the lectures, the attendees will also have an opportunity to present their own research ideas in small groups. Interacting with leading researchers in their respective research fields may also lead to potential research collaborations. It is our hope that this workshop will step up the research activities in BOM to a new level in China
