Introduction
The 32nd international conference of the Spanish Association of Applied Linguistics (AESLA) will take place from 3rd to 5th April 2014 at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide in Seville. The theme title this year is Language Industries and Social Change. The focus this year is on the connection between applied linguistics and the productive sectors responsible for economic and human development, in this way looking at the connection between language and industry, multi-linguistic economy, language as an asset and a resource, language and inequality, social stratification and linguistic capital, among other subjects related to the theme of the conference. The conference aims at approaching language not only as a cultural asset but also as a material asset that generates growth and progress. At the same time, the conference does not lose sight of the fact that the language industry produces new ways of communicating which, as a consequence, produces profound social changes.
