Introduction
ISOPE 2014 conference will host the Second High Manganese Steel for Energy Applications Symposium. This symposium will focus on the emerging research directed toward all ferrous alloys with enhanced Manganese (Mn) alloying (3~40wt.%) and industrial applications of suchalloyed steels with emphasis in applications potential for energy industry. Extensive research in the last decade has shown that this class of alloyed steel has the scientific/technological interestand potential to significantly impact the industry. This class of alloyed steel is now being introduced in new structural and functional applications, such as automotive, cryogenic, and corrosion/wear resistance applications. Progress in a wide range of applications for the high Mn alloyed steels crucially depends on the development of new fabrication and processing technologies, along with a fundamental understanding of the relationship between the chemistry, structure and properties. Abstracts will be solicited on topics across a broad range of issues from fabrication (mineral extraction, melting, refining, casting, forging, heat treatment), alloy design, microstructure characterization, thermodynamics, computational modelling, phase transformation, mechanical properties, welding, hardfacing/coating, corrosion, wear performance, embrittlement mechanisms, computational simulations, and novel applications.
