The workshop intends to provide a forum for experts in the fields of social networks, Internet of Things, smart devices and smart communities to exchange their ideas and recent results as well as to discuss and advance the state of the art in the field of social aspects of smart environments. We invite researchers from academia and industry as well as practitioners from different areas related to the incorporation of social aspects into computer systems to contribute with their vision of the field.
Theme of the Workshop:
The number of operating personal devices is now counted in billions and their capabilities are growing in power. Nowadays many sensors and actuators are embedded into human-carried smart devices (such as smart phones), constituting a network of heterogeneous information sources. As an example, Twitter applications on smart phones produce information (tweets, photos, GPS locations) and are connected to other applications through the following relationship between the owners of the Twitter accounts. Similarly, devices can be connected by geographical proximity, and they can also exchange information without any explicit user intervention, e.g., in location based social network systems. Currently it is assumed that these devices are used for personal reasons only: mostly communication, sometimes information gathering and organization. At the moment they look like a collection of independent, opportunistic units, consuming data and information but not contributing to commonwealth or some collaborative goals. We are interested to recruit devices to contribute to common goals and tasks. The workshop focuses on social network analysis methods applied, in particular, to networks of heterogeneous smart devices. The scale, complexity and sensitivity of the information exchanged in these systems results in a wide range of challenges.
