Introduction
Java is envisaged as a fundamental technology for future generation scalable intelligent systems. The modern Java-based platforms cover a rich diversity of system components, languages, tools, frameworks, and techniques. It impacts and is impacted by all recent developments in the cloud, networks and mobile computing and related spaces. 2014 International Conference on Principles and Practices of Programming on the Java Platform: virtual machines, languages, and tools (PPPJ’14) – the 11th conference in the PPPJ series – provides a forum for researchers, practitioners, and educators to present and discuss novel results on all aspects of programming on the Java platform including virtual machines, languages, tools, methods, frameworks, libraries, case studies, and experience reports.
