Introduction
TILT ’14 addresses the needs and issues related to ongoing professional development of language teachers, practitioners and researchers at all levels and contexts. It focuses on the question of what constitutes the knowledge base of language teaching and how it relates to the processes and content of teacher education. This theme includes research and perspectives on teachers’ knowledge, teacher learning in formal and informal contexts; teacher socialization, professional development, and the nature of disciplinary knowledge. The conference aims at bringing together teacher educators to discuss and share research, theory, and best practices and to initiate and sustain a meaningful professional dialogue across languages, levels, and settings. The conference is an outcome of the National Conference held by the Department of English in the early 2014, where the participants expressed the need to educate the language teachers in the various dimensions of teaching English in SL contexts.
