Soft materials are often at the heart of modern technologies, and their studies have implications and applications in many areas ranging from biology to engineering. A basic characteristic of soft materials is their ability to experience large deformation under multiple fields, which inevitably leads to formation of patterns that are much more varied and complicated than those in traditional materials. Such pattern formation is often the result of a bifurcation or loss of stability. Attempts to understand such pattern formation are continuously pushing existing mathematical methods, numerical computation, and modeling techniques to the limit, and begging for the development of new ideas. This international workshop aims to bring together leading researchers working on different aspects, such as theory, experiments, computation, and modeling, to review the latest developments in this exciting research area.
