Big data drives the innovations in communication infrastructure, as more bandwidth is needed and any-to-any connectivity. In addition, smart and dynamic applications that access geographically distributed databases and servers through public and private clouds require extremely flexible traffic management and access to bandwidth on demand. To achieve these goals, Smart Cities need to be equipped with an agile network that is directly programmable and centrally managed. Software Defined Networking (SDN) is an emerging network architecture that is dynamic, manageable, and adaptable, making it ideal for supporting dynamic and high-bandwidth today’s complex and smart applications. Further, smart cities require that networks are secure, easily customized, scalable, and efficient.
