Introduction

With a substantive level of technical innovation and a successful big data mining, Globalland30 has been produced as the world’s first 30m wall-to-wall global land cover dataset and made freely available to international communities (www.globeland30.org). While more and more users (now more than 5600 users from 90 countries) are using GlobeLand30 for scientific research and education, its continuous updating and refinement is becoming an urgent requirement and a big challenge. This will depend critically on the way land cover changes are detected and the datasets are updated. In addition to the traditional and mainstream change detection from imagery, the huge data produced by moving objects (such as smart phone or GPS tracking equipment) provides supplement and valuable sources for change information. It is therefore important to derive land cover change information from moving objects data (such as trajectories, photos, and geo-tagging) and to update/ refine GlobeLand30. This joint workshop will present the latest developments on mobility analysis and land cover change mapping, exchange successful application experiences of moving objects data processing, examine their applications in land cover change mapping, and identify key gaps and major research challenges. It aims at promoting the multi-disciplinary collaboration towards efficient global land cover change mapping.
