Submission Topics

1.Application of Geomechanics in Reservoir Characterisation

  • Link between surface and sub-surface data
  • Structural geomechanics
  • Using geophysics to constrain geomechanics modeling (e.g., seismic inversion)
  • Monitoring and calibration
  • Experimental geomechanics
  • Risk and uncertainty assessments and management

2.The use of Geomechanics in Asset Management

  • Role and integration of geomechanics in field development processes
  • Data acquisition as a function of asset type and field development plans
  • How to quantify and maximize the value geomechnics brings to operations
  • Cost minimization and risk mangement
  • Increase integration of geomechanics to enhance informed decision making (e.g., translate computational results into practical operational recommendations, data availability and quantity, quantitative risk assessment, uncertainty analyses)

3.Enhanced Oil Recovery using Geomechanics

  • CO2, H2O, polymer, steam
  • Fluid pathways (in zone injection, cap rock integrity, natural fractures and faults, formation parting pressure estimation)
  • Maximum injection pressures
  • Impact on surface facility design (e.g., pump capacity)
  • Monitoring

4.Geomechanics for Drilling and Completion

  • Completions optimization
  • Sand management and strategy
  • (Quasi) Real time applications
  • Risk and uncertainty assessments / management
  • Data availability, quality, and acquisition

5.Role of Geomechanics in Tight Reservoirs and Unconventionals

  • Sweet spot analysis
  • Optimizing stimulation and re-fracturing
  • Microseismic
  • Natural fracture networks
  • UER and production/decline curve estimations

6.Knowledge Transfer & Retention

  • Role and view of universities, service company and operators
  • Education and training schedules/plans to maximize impact on students and new starters
  • Assurance that expertise and experience is passed in a timely and efficient manner from retirees to junior experts
