Introduction

The IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference is the annual flagship conference of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society. IEEE ITSC 2016 welcomes articles in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems, dealing with new developments in theory, analytical and numerical simulation and modeling, experimentation, demonstration, advanced deployment and case studies, results of laboratory or field operational tests, under the general theme of Intelligent Transportation for Smarter Societies.

Brought for the first time to South America, IEEE ITSC 2016 will be held in Rio de Janeiro, one of the major economic and cultural hubs of South America. The City of Rio sits at the heart of the Southeastern Region, contributing greatly for the Brazilian GDP. A cosmopolitan metropolis, known worldwide for its scenic beauty and its natural resources, the city provides a harmonious and agreeable environment for its residents and visitors, both for leisure and work. These combined with Rio’s infrastructure render it an important center for commerce and services, with the advantages of a modern and diversified industrial sector.

The Technical Program of IEEE ITSC 2016 will take place at the Convention Center of Windsor Oceanico Hotel, located in the sophisticated Barra da Tijuca, a short walk from the beach. Windsor Oceanico is equipped with a complete structure for conventions and conferences with modern and spacious meeting rooms. The Windsor Oceanico is connected to the Windsor Barra Hotel, which already has a mega structure for events, by a climatized walkway. It will be the largest integrated convention center in Rio de Janeiro.
