The Marine Technology Scociety and the Oceanic Engineering Society of the IEEE cosponor a joint annual conference and exposition on ocean science, engineering, and policy. The OCEANS conference covers four days. One day for tutorials and three for approx. 500 technical papers and 150 -200 exhibits.
On behalf of the OCEANS ’16 MTS/IEEE Shanghai Local Organizing Committee, it is our great honor to write to you on this prestigious event. OCEANS is the flagship conference of the Marine Technology Society (MTS) and the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES), and one of the most influential international conference in this field. We are excited that for the first time, the OCEANS will be held in Mainland China. The theme of the conference, "Our Future is with Oceans", reflects our growing understanding of the importance on sustainable oceans, and our dedication on making oceans sustainable, which is certainly necessary for building a better future.
The name Shanghai literarily means "above ocean". As it indicated, Shanghai started as a little seaside town. Today it is a world known international center from many aspects, among which is its seaports and ocean related industries. Promoting the ocean science and technology have always been the city’s important tasks. The government of Shanghai has been providing many international collaborative opportunities on marine technology innovation, ocean economy development, and ocean energy exploration, etc. The goal of those efforts is to bring more ocean scientists, engineers, research institutes, companies and organizations from all over the world to work toward the common goals of effectively protecting, peacefully utilizing, and sustainably developing oceans. Now with the OCEANS coming to Shanghai, we believe that Shanghai and the OCEANS will shed brighter light on each other for their leading roles on those efforts. As a frontrunner in ocean engineering and science in China, Shanghai Jiao Tong University is very glad to be the undertaker of OCEANS’ 16.
Shanghai is not a city that needs to be introduced on the world map. Whatever your expectation to Shanghai is, please come explore it. We believe it will fascinate you, its history, its culture, its food, its architect, its people, and most importantly, its energy.
This OCEANS has built a very strong technical program with 600+ abstract submissions and 400+ full papers to be presented. It will be an excellent opportunity to interact with your peers and discuss your research accomplishments. We believe your participation will prove to be extremely rewarding experience.
The beautiful city of Shanghai welcomes you.
