Artificial lift systems are needed during the life cycle of an oil or a gas well to manage production expectations and maximise recovery under constantly changing reservoir and operating conditions irrespective of hydrocarbon pricing scenarios. Artificial lift system equipment, design and operating practices continue to evolve in the face of adversities such as maturing fields, high viscosity oil, high water cut, sand, low reservoir pressures, high temperatures and high angle wells. Production engineers must evaluate applicability of artificial lift systems throughout the life cycle of hydrocarbon producing assets.
