Introduction

Satellite communications field involves the design, analysis and application of several signal processing techniques. Compared to terrestrial systems, the channel impairments are more adverse and the on board processing techniques shall be maintained with a very low complexity. Due to that, either targeting satellite systems with a Terabit per second capacity or developing battery powered satellite user terminals would require powerful methodologies such as multiuser precoding with hundreds of antennas, constant phase modulations and others. Most of these algorithms have quickly gained popularity in the recent years and they are being included in diverse satellite standards.

The School is related to the applications, methodological advances and basic theory of signal processing techniques in satellite communications. We plan to touch the current schemes that are implemented in today’s satellite equipment, as well as advanced techniques that will support Next generation satellite systems, with a main focus on High Throughput Satellites (HTS). This school schedules 6 short courses and 3 keynotes from renowned international professors and industry experts. Most courses will include close-to-real implementation results.
