Introduction

Modern EOR is increasingly driven by science and technology. Integrating the constant development of new methods and comparing existing knowledge with feedback from field trials are everyday challenges for EOR players. In this context, the current period of low oil prices and a slow-down in projects may represent an opportunity to focus on research and create the conditions for a successful recovery.
The IEA's Implementing Agreement (IA) for a program of research, development and demonstration on Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) was created to address all aspects of EOR through international collaboration. Over the years, it has proved to be an ideal platform for fruitful exchange between academia and industry.
IFP Energies nouvelles is pleased to host the 37th annual workshop and symposium of the EOR IA in Rueil-Malmaison (near Paris, France) in September 2016. The two-day workshop will cover a range of themes, including thermal, gas and chemical EOR methods, with a view to laboratory work, reservoir simulation and field operations. The one-day symposium will focus on the achievements and challenges of chemical EOR, with significant progress made in this particular area in recent years as a result of knowledge gained in the field and a better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms involved.
