Turbulent mixing and sediment transport in estuaries and the ocean provide important global pathways of heat, freshwater and key biogeochemical parameters. However, there are still many unresolved questions which prevent the reliable parameterization of processes responsible in state-of-the-art numerical models. As a consequence, advanced observations, theoretical analysis and numerical modelling have widely been applied to investigate small-scale processes in the ocean. However, the accurate quantification and parameterization of turbulent fluxes remains a particularly challenging area of coastal oceanography. To this end, a scientific workshop has been organized on the topic of: Turbulent Mixing and Sediment Transport in the Ocean is planned for 12th - 14th September 2016 in Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China.
