Homology of Medicine and Food: New Legislation and New Policy in the Era of Genes

Based on huge advances in IT and genetic engineering, revolutionary changes in health science and life science, have attracted the attention of diverse scholars and the public worldwide. With increasing public focus on issues like gene technology and food safety, scholars and professionals in the life sciences must know cutting-edge scientific and technology achievements as well as trends in the related policies in worldwide. As a result of modern society’s high interconnection and changing demographics, developments in biotechnology, such as gene editing, wearable medical equipment, and neuro-chips are poised to make a major difference in people’s lives. All these scientific achievements provoke our profound admiration. However, potential challenges such as genetic pollution, ethics of biotechnologies and bio-weapons cannot be ignored.

In the era of the rapid rise of gene science, Chinese traditional medical treatments develop together with modern therapy, so we need to develop new policies and regulations to guide the development and integration of these two different ways.  New policies are needed to address biotechnology intellectual property protection, food safety legislation, culture inheritance and development of Chinese traditional medicine and ethics and privacy protection in gene technology.
