International Seminar on Contemporary FIQH VIII 2016

Maqasid al-Shari’ah is the main objectives behind the revelation of Islamic law which is, in general, it aims to serve human interests (maslahah) in the world and hereafter. By this, it is understood that any ruling ordained by God there must be a specific objective of bringing benefit to the human being. In present development of research and fatwa many efforts have been done by contemporary scholars to highlightMaqasid al-Shari'ah as a foundation basis in solving the contemporary issues in Islamic law. Many views and ijtihad based on Maqasid al-Shari'ah have been offered in various field of Islamic law and yet the debate on its application shows no end. As the central part of Maqasid al-Shari'ah is the maslahah, the discussion on maslahah and its standard is pertinent especially when it comes to its application in contemporary challenging issues facing the muslims society. It is the determination of this standard that invite disputes among the scholars. In lieu of this, the seminar will tackle this issue, i.e. what is the standard of maslahah in the application of Maqasid al-Shari'ah as a tool in solving the contemporary issues and the related issues revolved around it.

The objectives of this conference are as follows:

1. To discuss the standard of Maqasid al-Shari'ah based on present reality.

2. To analyze the application of contemporary issues based on Maqasid al-Shari'ah’s standard.

3. To evaluate challenges in application of Maqasid al-Shari'ah.

4. To rectify misunderstandings on the application of Maqasid al-Shari'ah in contemporary issues.
