Introduction

The Chinese American Networking Symposium (CANS) has been in existence for more than 15 years. Once-per year, interested parties meet to discuss areas of mutual interest that revolve around research and education networks, their engineering, and novel ways in which the network can be utilized for science and education. In 2016, CANS will continue its focus on working together to promote interoperability and seamless networking – and seamless collaboration in research and education. Additionally, CANS2016 will focus on domain scientists’ needs and on how CANS can be a platform to both address end-to-end connectivity issues and as a people network to improve existing and enable new US-China science collaborations.

Since 1999, top leaders in networking and applications research and development from China and United States gather annually at the Chinese - American Networking Symposium (CANS) to exchange information and experience, discuss new ideas and advancements in networking technologies and research applications, and to and promote partnerships between American and Chinese educational and research institutions, and the private sector. Alternately held in the USA and China, the programs include presentations by networking experts and disciplinary researchers, panel discussions, and executive and technical breakout sessions.
