Novel scientific discoveries, technological advancements, and integrated innovations have accelerated societal development through information technologies, economic integrations, and world multi-polarizations. In other words, science and technology are more instrumental to economic development and human civilization than ever before. Transport, as a major discipline of science and technology, is facing a number of challenges for sustainable development, such as the multi-disciplinary convergence, big data science, resource shrinkage, climate changes, and extreme events. How to cope with these changes and meet the needs of new environmental and societal requirements is an inevitable question that the world transportation community has to address collectively.
Therefore, initiated by the China Highway and Transportation Society and in cooperation with transport organizations both in China and in other countries, the inaugural World Transport Convention (WTC) will be held in Beijing from June 4 to 6, 2017 in order to explore various potential solutions to these problems. The convention will focus on comprehensive, smart, green, and safe transportation with the “The Belt & Road” initiative as a key highlight. It will cover the whole span of technical aspects of transport systems, ranging from policy and planning to design and construction, and from operations and management to cross-cutting issues. WTC aims at establishing an international platform for transport researchers, practitioners, and government officials to share research findings and academic ideas, exchange successful practice and managerial trials, and explore business opportunities and global collaborations.
Under the theme “Green and Integrated Development with Innovation,” the content of WTC2017 will cover sci-tech research & exchange, exhibition on achievements & products, sharing & cooperation in cross-cutting sectors, talent & team fostering, etc., aiming at providing a platform of academic exchange to cultivate, guide, display, and implement innovative ideas and practices for the whole transport industry.
